Looney Blue Moons

The 7th Annual Homer Ski for Women, February 7, 2010.
To commemorate the blue moon (and lunar eclipse) of December 31, 2009, and in keeping with our ongoing Alaska wildlife theme, Carol and Gail came up with the Looney Blue Moons.  Nina thought of placing the moons so as to be "mooning" our admirers.  Carol thought that a cow jumping over the moon would help illustrate the concept.  Although for some strange reason we did not win the costume contest this year, nor make the newspaper (there were no reporters present) these costumes were a breeze to make, the skiing was divine, and a good time was had by all.

All photos by Gail Heineman except those with attribution in the caption (Kevin Walker, Lynn Temple).

Gail made and wore the cow with Melon's direction as to where horns, spots, and such belong.

Sunday was another lovely blue-sky day, with fresh snow to boot!  Click on any photo to see it full size in a new window.

Despite many catastrophic lunar explosions, we had enough extra balloons to fix all the half-moons.

Cow trying to jump again with Carol. We definitely need a more athletic cow.

Nicky defected to another group this year, but she brought hot dogs so we forgive her.
